What is the law of attraction?
In philosophy, the Law of Attraction (LOA) is the simple belief that through focusing on negative or positive thoughts, one can attract negative or positive experiences into his or her life. Simply put, the LOA is the belief that individuals can attract into their lives whatever they are focusing on. Anything that you give your attention and energy will get back to you.
Basically, all thoughts eventually turn into things, so if you focus on positive and good things, you will ultimately attract positive and good things. If you give your attention to the gloom, doom and a lot of negativity, that is precisely what you will attract into your life.
Does the LOA really work?
Like attracts like: Things in the universe tend to migrate towards other things (as demonstrated by the law of gravity). The Law of Attraction works in the same way. Often, if you feel enthusiastic, excited, joyful, abundant, passionate, or appreciative, then you will be sending out positive energies. However if you are feeling angry, stressed out, anxious, resentful, sad, or bored, you will be sending out negative energies.
The universe, through LOA, responds enthusiastically to either energy, without deciding which ones are better for you. It only responds to whatever it receives from you, and gives you the same thing. So at any time, whatever you are focusing on is typically what you are requesting from the universe.
The Law of Attraction has manifested itself throughout history. Many great men and women including renowned poets, scientist, great thinkers, and artists have attested to how its values have changed and left a positive mark on their lives. Shakespeare, Emerson, Isaac Newton, Beethoven, and Blake are some of the famous people in history who have conveyed strong messages about the LOA in their works.
Even in modern society, there are many advocates of the Law of Attraction, who include Denzel Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jim Carrey, among others. Oprah Winfrey, in one interview with Larry King, detailed on how she has seen success in her life through the Law of Attraction.
However, the most difficult part of accepting and acknowledging the truth about the Law of Attraction is realizing the decisions you make in your life, whether good or bad, are always shaped by only you. This is often a bitter pill for many, especially when you feel that life has been unfair to you. But the truth is, once you start understanding how the Law of Attraction works, you can get renewed with courage and hope in the knowledge that you can always take control of your life freely, and get rid of your cycle of fear, stress, worry, and all kinds of negativity which hold you back.
Fact, not fiction: The Law of Attraction is Science-Backed
Quantum physicists have significantly helped in the understanding of the Law of Attraction and its impacts on human life and the universe. Again, there is substantial scientific evidence that proves that a person’s thoughts have tangible and immediate effects on them and the environment.
A group of scientists conducted a study in 1997 to determine the differences in fondly remembering the youth and reliving youth. In the study, which involved old men (aged between 70 and 80), one group reminisced and talked about their youth while another group acted young, listening to the music of their youth, doing activities they used to do, and surrounding themselves with such things as TV shows.
At the end of the study, the researchers noticed that the individuals who imagined and reminisced about their youth showed some signs of de-aging. They experienced lower blood pressure, diminishing arthritis, and their hearing and eyesight improved. Their imaginations and thoughts had made reversed some physical aging.
In another study done in 1993, four thousand meditators came together to meditate on love and peace in a bid to reduce crime rates in Washington DC. A team of researchers and scientists tested for every imaginable variable without bias. During the four weeks of meditation, crime rates in D.C reduced by 25%, scientifically and definitively proving that positive thoughts of people can substantially change the environment.
It does not matter whether or not you thoroughly understand what quantum physics or the various scientific studies say about the LOA. You should not deprive yourself of the many benefits presented to you by this generous universal law.
How should I use the Law of Attraction?
Once you understand how the Law of Attraction works and that there are a plethora of possibilities the universe has to offer, you begin to realize that you can be whoever you want to be and achieve great things. You only need to begin intentionally feeling and thinking about the things you want the universe to give to you. Following are some things that you can improve by using the Law of Attraction.
Manifest relationships and love
There is a wide range of LOA exercises and techniques that you can use to boost your charisma, confidence, and your general subconscious willingness to welcome love. The Law of Attraction involves working on your inner desires and your general self, which while you might not notice it, makes you more attractive, confident, outgoing, and loveable.
Start focusing on love, give out love you need to attract and be more generous. This way, you are automatically going to attract more love to you. Remember to show gratitude for everything.
Attracting money and wealth
If you wish for financial abundance, then you’d better start focusing and thinking about prosperity. For instance, envision yourself receiving the checks; write yourself the fat checks you wish for and post them in some visible location so that each time you look at them; you get motivated that it’s possible to achieve. Again, you have to be grateful for what you already have and, of course, work hard for what you don’t have.
Rhonda Byrne once said that “Everyone visualizes whether or not he knows it. Visualizing is the biggest secret of success.” Now, while the word success might sound somewhat vague, it actually simply proves that the Law of Attraction can be all-encompassing. So again, start thinking about prosperity in all that you do. See yourself passing that exam, getting that promotion, buying that house, etc.
Improve both your physical and mental health
In Katherine Hurst’s words, “our health goes way beyond our physical bodies. It’s not simply about the foods we eat and what we take out, but it’s also about how we are feeling emotionally and spiritually.”
While using the Law of Attraction will not purely substitute healthy eating and physical activity, it can boost a wide range of benefits for one’s spiritual, physical, and mental health. The LOA will train your mind and brain to always see things positively which will give you happiness and prevent anger, stress, anxiety, gloom, among other negativities that aren’t good for your health.
The LOA focuses on the idea of self-esteem and confidence, which are vital in getting rid of anxiety and depression. This universal law is also helpful if you are trying to lose weight. You realize that positive thinking can go a long way in eliminating binge eating and the lack of motivation in, say, your workout plan. A mindful approach to diet can also help you to manage your appetite and in turn, your weight.
How to begin utilizing the Law of Attraction now
Perhaps you want to start using the law of attraction in your life immediately, but you have no idea where or how to start. In this section, you will learn about the various ways you can start using the LOA and turn your dreams into reality. Follow these steps and start changing your life;
Relax your mind: Make your decision
Deciding what you need to attract in your life is the most important step. You will need a clear vision. Do you need a small thing or a huge overhaul? Spend time meditating on that specific thing you want. Imagine what it feels like, smells like, looks like, tastes like, and sounds like. Imagine how this new thing will change your life.
After making your decision, you will need to think differently, respond differently to various situations arising in your life, experience more situations or things that interest you or even deliberately participate in creating the things you want.
Always work for the things you want, and not those you don’t want.
Each day the universe receives requests from you, but unfortunately, most of these requests aren’t deliberate, they are random since we simply respond to various situations.
Since the LOA states that you will receive whatever you focus on and think about, wanted or unwanted, it is imperative that you start being more deliberate about your feelings and thoughts.
This is directly linked to the first step because becoming more intentional involves deciding about the specific things that you wish for, and practicing feeling the emotions that you will experience once you get them.
You will need to make a request to the universe for what you need. It will definitely answer back. Visualize yourself already owning what you asked for. If, for instance, you have a crush on someone, visualize yourself touching them, walking with them, kissing, or even caressing them. Remember that the more specific and detailed your vision is better.
Write down your wishes
You can start your sentence with “I’m so grateful and happy now that…,” and proceed to tell the universe about the things you wish for. Be sure to write in the present tense as though you already have the thing you wish to have. As much as possible, avoid negation terms. Close your eyes every day, and imagine your wish as if it’s happening until it comes true.
So that you receive the things that you wish for, you have to become the “vibrational match” for them. You can easily do this by focusing on developing positive emotions of joy, love, gratitude, and appreciation throughout the day. Also, practice feeling those emotions you expect to if when you get the thing you need.
As your thoughts create feelings every time, it is vital to be alert and notice when the thoughts turn negative and change them to positive emotions.
Note down all the things you have received from the universe and be thankful for them. Being grateful brings you to harmony with the giver, the universe. Thankfulness is so powerful; it can transform your life. When you are grateful, you feel better; you don’t complain, you feel loved, and fulfilled. It creates abundance.
Believe that you will get the things you wish for
This simply means maintaining that positive expectancy all the way until you get what you wanted. Go through each day with certainty trusting that your future is under the control of powers greater than yours. It is all about the conviction that whatever you wish for must happen.
However, this isn’t always easy. Many individuals have some limiting beliefs that keep them from happiness and abundance. If you are one of them, you have to turn your limiting beliefs to thoughts which are desirable, worthy, deserving, lovable, capable, smart and strong enough. Once you believe in achieving your wishes, take action and stay on course.
Open up to various possibilities
Addressing your doubts and fears is very critical, but after the acknowledgment, replace the doubts and fears with gratitude and appreciation. These positive feelings will change your expectations and perspective and open up more possibilities for better and greater things in your life.
It is okay to think about all the bad and ugly things in your life. But as you do that, try to connect them to the fears and doubts which brought them around. Focusing on and recognizing how your doubts and fears have manifested themselves in your life doesn’t mean that those bad things are your fault. It just means that the LOA is responding to signals sent out by you. Bear in mind that the LOA system work and being aware will guide you.
Think about the good things you have experienced. Reflect upon your hopes, ambitions, and dreams. Reinforce them in your mind by believing you will achieve them.
However, as noted earlier, while the LOA can help you change your life, you still must work hard every day to achieve your dreams. You have to take action, for instance, going to work and working extra harder.
